Chapter Thirteen

It was coming closer and closer to Valentine’s Day and even though Erik hated the day, Aryell wanted to do something special for him. He was heading back into town to talk to Helena to see if he could get a bunch of tulips for the day. It was true that it wasn’t their season yet, but mermaid magic could give them the nudge that they needed.

Erik had said that he didn’t need more than the potted one Aryell had given him, but Aryell wanted to show the man how much he cared about him and how much he wanted him.

They hadn’t done anything else since the day they’d brought each other to orgasm, but they had been spending a lot more time together. Although Erik still had his nightmares, it was only on the rare occasions when they didn’t sleep in each other’s arms. Aryell couldn’t have been happier with their relationship, but now he just needed to find a way to ask Erik to be his.

Aryell opened the door to the florist and walked in. There was a young lady at the counter, but before either of them could speak, Helena came out of the back room.

“Hello again, to what do I owe the pleasure this time?” Her eyes twinkled.

“I was hoping to buy some flowers from you,” Aryell teased back.

It had the desired effect when Helena laughed. “Come on to the back. I just made a pot of tea. You can tell me what you’re after and I’ll see what I can do.”

Aryell followed her, completely ignoring the young woman behind the counter. He’d noticed that predatory look in her eyes and he didn’t want to do anything to encourage it.

Maybe I should have mentioned I was here to buy flowers for someone?

They were sitting with cups of tea in their hands when Helena spoke. “So, what do you need?”

Aryell opened his mouth to reply, but paused and really thought about her question. “I need the man I want as my own to be in my life forever. What I would like is a dozen red tulips to gift to him on Valentine’s Day to show him how much he means to me.”

He knew he’d said the right thing when her lips curved into a bright and happy smile.

“As I mentioned to you last time, they’re not in season. But I’m sure I can get you what you need.”

“Thank you. What will I owe you?”

“Stories.”

“Stories?”

“Yes, stories. I haven’t been home since I left and that was many, many years ago. What has changed? What is the same? What stories are there from home?”

Aryell smiled and spent the next few hours regaling Helena with stories. It was a small price to pay for the flowers she had promised him.

Later he would go back to Erik’s and spend more time with the man.
